The Library maintains a separate book shelf for teens, accessible in the teen room. The Library also encourages teens to volunteer, and to participate in other special events scheduled periodically.
Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
If you are at least 11 years old, you qualify to volunteer at the Library in the children's room. Your duties will include putting away children's books (easy reading, fiction and non-fiction), assisting patrons with book selections, and engaging in preparation work for upcoming programs.
If you are 14 years old, you also have the option of being an Independent Specialty Volunteer. You may target one type of Library service that you enjoy doing and perform that duty monthly at a time convenient for you and library staff. Independent volunteers will also be needed for special summer programs, family evening programs, and any events that may draw a large crowd.
If you are 16 years old and older you can volunteer for any of the tasks listed above, and you will be given the opportunity to learn to work at the circulation desk.
Times available to volunteer: Pre-arrangement is required.
After school (September – May): Monday - Thursday afternoons 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Summer (Mid June - Mid August): Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon, or 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Book Signings
On occasion the Library schedules book signings for local and regional authors. Patrons may come to meet the authors and learn more about their recent publications. Watch our calendar and check back here.
Reader’s Corner
The Library hosts an informal book discussion group open to any patron. The group meets monthly to discuss books selected by its members. Participants are not required to attend discussions, but may choose to join the group when the book interests them. The Library orders multiple copies of paperback editions of the books to be discussed and makes them available to the group members. When possible, the Library also obtains an audio version of the book. Click HERE to view the Reader's Corner page.
From the latest fiction and non-fiction to time-honored classics, the Lancaster Community Library looks to provide patrons with a wide array of material for their reading or viewing pleasure.

If you are feeling a bit adventerous you can try the following quick alteration of the numbers of days in the search parameters. Of course, you can always search easily by subject or author once in the catalog itself. But here are the steps for altering the days parameter e.g. you want to search for books or DVDs added in the past 60 days.
1) Click on a link above using the right mouse button
2) From the popup menu select "copy link address" or equivalent on a Mac
3) Open a new tab in your browser and paste in the address bar the link address you copied
In this test case the link address for the New DVDs. When pasted it looks like this (shortened):
http://lancaster.biblionix.com/?advanced_option=key...&advanced_value2=7
4) Before pressing Enter or selecting GO (→) in the browser change the number of days (7) to 60.
Now the link address in the address bar looks like this (shortened here to fit):
http://lancaster.biblionix.com/?advanced_option=key...&advanced_value2=60
5) Press Enter key when you're happy with the changes
Voila! Easy!! :)
