During 2018 we took a close look at usage metrics for many of our paid services we offer to card holders of the library. Several of those services were not cost effective so we have cancelled some of them and replaced others with a more cost-effective model for our local demographic.

One of the new services we began offering in September of 2018 was a TV streaming service called AcornTV. Acorn TV streams world-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies from Britain and beyond.

Binge-watch a classic series or discover your new favorite show among dozens of programs available exclusively on Acorn TV. With thousands of hours of commercial-free programming and new shows added weekly, there’s always something to watch! Note from Acorn Support: We no longer support Samsung smart TVs. Samsung has migrated to a new operating system and we consequently are no longer able to update the Acorn TV app. Please review the list of alternative devices for accessing AcornTV on the website “Acorn.TV” under the HELP menu item.

Mango Language Learning was replaced with DuoLingo. Duolingo is the world's largest online language learning platform. It was recognized as Apple's iPhone App of the Year of 2013 as well as Google Play's Best of the Best of 2013 and 2014. Duolingo's adaptive experience has gamified elements to make language learning more fun and effective. 100 million students are learning a language with Duolingo. Did we mention that Duolingo is also 100% free? Join the movement, sign up today!

Another addition is FindItVirginia. Find It Virginia is a carefully curated selection of authoritative databases, online learning products, and digital reading content (both text and audio) for Virginians of all ages. There is more than mentioned here. There is even a legal section.
